A study on the lifetime of large dams constructed around the world has also been published. Just 25 countries have 93 percent of the biggest dams in the world. However, The lifetime of 58,700 large dams constructed worldwide between 1930 and 1970 was expected to last for 50 to 100 years.
The main dams exist in China, India, Japan, and South Korea. There are 32,716 major dams in all four countries (55 percent of the world). China has 23,841 major dams alone. In India, about 1,115 major dams have been built.
