Astronauts for Future Missions: Current Affairs 2021
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has selected Anil Menon, an Indian-origin physician, and nine others as astronauts for future missions. Menon, a lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force, was SpaceX’s first flight surgeon, helping the firm fly its first people into space on Nasa’s SpaceX Demo-2 mission. Nasa said in a statement that it has selected ten new astronaut candidates from a pool of more than 12,000 applications to represent the United States and serve for the benefit of mankind in space. Menon has worked for Nasa as a crew flight surgeon on a number of voyages to the International Space Station. After Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams, aeronautical engineer Sirisha Bandla became the third Indian-origin woman to travel into space in July.

On December 7, India successfully test-fired a short-range surface-to-air missile from an integrated test range at Chandipur, Odisha. The launch was carried out from a vertical launcher against an electronic target at a very low altitude, according to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The system was launched on 07th of December to test the combined functioning of all weapon system components, including the vertical launcher unit with controller and weapon control system, which is necessary for future missile launches from Indian Naval Ships. Jal Jeevan Mission: Today Current Affairs in English
Manipur has received a Central Grant of 120 crore rupees under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The Jal Jeevan Mission-Urban, which was created on August 15, 2019, intends to provide universal coverage of water service in all 4,378 statutory towns as well as sewage management in 500 AMRUT cities. Manipur plans to supply tap water to every rural home in the state by September of next year. Out of a total of around four lakh 50 thousand rural houses in Manipur, two lakh 67 thousand have tap water connections as of today. The state has been awarded a Central Fund of 481 crore rupees for the execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission, according to the Ministry of Jal Shakti. This is approximately four times the fund allocation made in 2020-21, according to the statement.
