IMF’s Chief Economist: Latest in Current Affairs
Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, a French-born economist, has been chosen as the next chief economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which was established on 27 December 1945. A total of 190 member countries were involved in the IMF. He will succeed Gita Gopinath, the first woman to hold the position of head economist at the Fund. From January 21, 2022, he will serve as the IMF’s first deputy managing director. Gourinchas will begin working for the IMF part-time on January 24, 2022. From April 1, 2022, he will assume a full-time position.
