As per the 15th Finance Commission, the Ministry of Finance allocated Rs 13,385.70 crore to 25 States on Monday for grants to Rural Local Bodies (RLBs). This amount is for improving two important components in Panchayati Raj institutions. These elements pertain to sanitation, maintaining an Open Defecation Free status, rainwater collection, drinking water supply, and water recycling. 60% of the Grant-in-Aid granted to Panchayati Raj institutions for effective progress in rainwater collection, drinking water supply, and some other elements. The remaining 40% is referred to as an “Untied Grant,” and it is used for the discretion of Panchayati Raj organizations for location-specific felt needs, excluding salary payments.
