Coronavirus: WHO increases the risk from moderate to high globally

  • The World Health Organization arrived in China on 27 January 2020 to discuss ways in which the Corona Virus is spreading.
  • The death toll is spreading because of the virus. The death toll arising from the outbreak has reached 106, and so far about 4,000 people have been infected.
  • Earlier the WHO had reported that virus spread is moderate. However, now its risk status for the virus has changed as “high.”
  • The virus spread to France, China, Canada, the United States, Japan, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
  • In India, there has been a quarantined Indian medical student (Rajasthan) who recently traveled from China.
  • Many countries such as the US, Canada, India, and France cautioned against traveling to China.

Online web portal ‘GATI’, Launched by Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari 

  • The online web portal ‘ GATI’ was launched by Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari recently.
  • The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has designed it after taking inspiration from the PRAGATI platform of PMO.

India Celebrates 155th Birth Anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai

  • One of India’s most famed freedom fighters Lala Lajpat Rai’s 155th birth anniversary is celebrated on the 28th of January 2020.
  • He had also been named as the ‘Punjab Kesari’ and ‘Lion of Punjab’ for his great ideology of nationalism and patriotism.
  • He was born on 28 January 1865 in Dhudike, Punjab in a Jain family.
  • Lala Lajpat Rai along with Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal strengthened Swadeshi Movement.
  • He had also been an active participant of the Indian Nationalist Movement, Indian Independence Movements, and Hindu Reform Movements.
  • He also played a major role in the protests against Simon’s commission.
  • Lala Lajpat Rai also initiated the foundation of Punjab National Bank, Hisar Bar Council, Hisar Arya Samaj, Hisar Congress, and National DAV Managing Committee.

Govt took the law of citizenship to correct historical injustice | PM Modi rallying at NCC

  • On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government had introduced the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). It is to rectify “historical injustice” and fulfill the “existing pledge” made by the BJP to religious minorities residing in adjacent countries.
  • The PM, who spoke at the annual National Cadet Corps (NCC) protest, said the new government was trying to address the country’s decades-old problems.
  • He said the previous governments had treated the issue as a question of law and order.
  • The act allows citizenship for Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Christians in Afghanistan, Bangladesh,
  • Pakistan who allegedly fled religious persecution and returned to India on or before 31 December 2014.
  • Through their respective state legislatures, four state governments–West Bengal, Rajasthan, Punjab, Kerala –have already adopted resolutions against CAA.
  • “Some time ago, an announcement was placed out by the Pakistan Army. It was an ad for the staff to clean up. It said the position could only be applied for by non-Muslims. For these Dalits and other communities that implies, ” the PM said.

  • The fourth state to pass anti-CAA resolution is West Bengal on January 27, 2020. The law is against the constitution and humanity stated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
  • Both Congress and CPI(M) led-Left Front parties gave support to the resolution, and the BJP party is opposed to it.
  • Previously the state assembly has passed a similar resolution in September 2019. Four states have passed resolutions, including West Bengal demanding the rollback of the Citizenship Amendment Act.
  • The other three states are Kerala, Rajasthan, and Punjab. In these Kerala was the first state, Punjab became the second state, and Rajasthan is the third state that passes the anti-CAA resolution act.
