Ghosh Elected to National Academy of Sciences: Top 10 Current Affairs
Shankar Ghosh, an immunization expert of Indian origin has been elected to the prestigious National Academy of Sciences of the United States. Ghosh is a Silverstein and Hut family professor of microbiology and a professor in the Department of Microbiology. This honor was conferred upon him in recognition of “continuing his outstanding work in fundamental science.” Ghosh’s study is critical in determining the impact of various diseases on the immune system, such as cancer and diabetes. As a result, Ghosh was named one of 120 new members for this award by Columbia University’s Irving Medical Center. In addition, his research on cellular processes that regulate the conversion of DNA to RNA is being thoroughly investigated.

DCGI Approved 2DG Drug: Today Latest Current Affairs
The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the use of the DRDO-developed 2-Dioxy D-Glucose (2DG) drug. Previously, the 2DG drug was used to treat cancer. By depriving the cells in the body of glucose, this drug slows the development of cancer cells. The 2DG drug enters the infected cell and prevents it from absorbing glucose. It operates in people with moderate to extreme Covid symptoms, according to clinical trials. The RTPCR test showed that a significant majority of the victims who were treated with this drug tested negative. As a result, DCGI has approved the use of the 2DG drug to quickly recover covid patients.
