S-400 Missile System: Latest in Current Affairs
In order to improve India’s air defense capabilities, Russia has begun delivering the S-400 missile system to the country. The S-400 Triumf is a mobile Surface to air (SAM) system. In 2018, India purchased five S-400 systems, for which it paid the first $800 million installments in 2019. In 2021, Russia began deliveries for deployment on schedule. The S-400 is widely regarded as the world’s most sophisticated air-defense system. The missile can defend itself against missiles, rockets, cruise missiles, and airplanes from within its air defense bubble. ‘Duare Ration’ Scheme: Daily GK Current Affairs
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, launched the “Duare Ration Scheme” on November 16, 2021. Around 10 crore individuals in the state would benefit from the Duare Ration (ration at doorstep) initiative. The government has also agreed to increase ration sellers’ commission from Rs 75 to Rs 150 per quintal of food grains. Ten crore individuals would receive their rations at their doorstep on a monthly basis under the plan. Each dealer will be able to choose at least two people to assist them with ration distribution. They would be given a monthly wage of Rs 10,000, with the government paying Rs 5,000 and the dealer covering the rest.

On this occasion, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh met with successful start-ups, including those from tribal communities. According to the minister, the Central Government would create 30 Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Hubs for Scheduled Tribes (STs) across the country by the end of 2022. These STI centers will help tribal communities enhance their scientific capacity as well as their overall socioeconomic progress.
