On July 28, Rakesh Asthana, a Gujarat cadre member, was appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner. Rakesh Asthana was born in Ranchi, the undivided state of Bihar’s capital. Astana, a 1984 IPS graduate, has held positions as Special Director of the CBI and Director General of the BSF. Asthana now serves as the Director-General of the BSF. He will succeed Balaji Srivastava, the current police commissioner. However, Asthana initially gained national attention while working for the CBI, when he was involved in the fodder scandal involving former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
